Assistant or Associate Professor of Second Temple Period Judaism
The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies of New York University invites applications for a position in Second Temple Period Judaism, to begin September 1, 2012, pending administrative and budgetary approval. We contemplate appointing at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (tenured). Candidates with expertise and academic training in all specialties are encouraged to apply, including history, literature, thought, philology, history of exegesis, liturgy and culture. Applicants should have research and teaching competence in Hebrew texts.

Goldsten-Goren Research Scholar in American Jewish History
The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies seeks to appoint one Goldstein-Goren Research Scholar in American Jewish History for the Academic Year 2012-2013. This position is a project of the Goldstein-Goren Center for American Jewish History, an institute at New York University dedicated to the study of the mutual impact of Jews and America. We are particularly interested in scholarship which explores the intellectual and literary encounters between the Jews and America.
The Goldstein-Goren Research Scholar will have an academic year to conduct an independent research project on some aspect of American Jewish history with the goal of producing a scholarly monograph, to be published by New York University Press. Final decisions on matters of publication are decided by NYU Press and the Goldstein-Goren Center.
The Scholar is expected to be in residence at New York University for the duration of the appointment. He/she may not have other full-time obligations. In addition the Scholar is required to make a scholarly presentation of her/his work, the format to be determined. This position does not involve any teaching or the assumption of any departmental responsibilities. However, the appointed Scholar is highly encouraged to be an active member of the academic, intellectual, and social community of the Department.
The successful applicant will have earned his/her Ph.D. prior to 2006. He/she will be a tenured or tenure-track professor with significant research, presentation, and publication history. Compensation includes a salary of $48,000 and a $2,000 research fund.
